Ghent (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – DJ Charlotte de Witte turned 33 and gave a surprise sunrise set at Vlasmarkt during the Gentse Feesten. Fans celebrated her birthday; videos spread online.
As VRT News reported, this morning, july 21, 2025, at the Vlasmarkt in Ghent, DJ Charlotte de Witte gave a surprise show. It happened during the 3rd night of the Gentse Feesten. Gerald Claes spoke from the DJ tower and asked if the crowd wanted to sing for someone’s birthday.
Then Charlotte de Witte appeared behind the DJ booth. She turned 33 today. The crowd cheered as she started her set. She had just played at Tomorrowland and Dour. But she chose to end her weekend in her hometown.
What made Charlotte de Witte’s birthday set in Ghent special?
As the sun started to rise, people danced and sang “Happy Birthday” to her. Charlotte is known for her hometown Ghent. She has played surprise sets at the Vlasmarkt before. Many people took videos and photos. Fans said it was the best moment of the festival so far.
According to officials, earlier this year, Charlotte de Witte proved again why she is one of the top names in electronic music. In the spring, she sold out Flanders Expo in Ghent, one of the biggest indoor halls in Belgium.
Even more special was her open-air performance in early February 2025. It took place under the Stadshal in the center of Ghent. The Stadshal is a modern roofed structure on the main square. Even though it was cold, around 12,500 people showed up. They danced and celebrated with her in the middle of the city where she started her journey.
Charlotte de Witte lives abroad now because she travels often as a DJ. After her surprise set at the Vlasmarkt, she wrote on social media that there is no better way to celebrate her birthday than in her beautiful hometown of Ghent.
