Sint-Truiden (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – A 30-year-old man was arrested in East Flanders after home batteries were stolen from a construction site in Sint-Truiden, police confirmed after house searches.

They are valued at 80,000 euros and were stolen from a warehouse on a building site.

On June 25, house batteries were stolen. An investigation was then initiated by the Limburg public prosecutor’s office and the local police, Sint-Truiden-Gingelom-Nieuwerkerken.

The stolen items were promptly found because of the collaboration between the local police departments in Aalst and Dilbeek. Two suspects were also found after several house searches.

On June 26, a 30-year-old guy was taken into custody in Nieuwerkerken, Belgium, which is close to Aalst. The investigating judge heard his case. He chose to take the guy into custody.

Under the direction of the investigating judge, the Sint-Truiden-Gingelom-Nieuwerkerken local police are currently carrying out the inquiry.

What measures are being taken to prevent future thefts of valuable batteries?

In order to make unauthorized removal considerably more difficult and time-consuming for thieves, certain battery systems now incorporate patent-pending locking modules at both the top and bottom of the battery string.

Tilting or strong movement can be detected by contemporary battery management systems. The battery may be automatically disabled by the system if tampering is detected, making it useless until authorized personnel retrieve and re-enable it.

Batteries with tracking modules can immediately help law enforcement and recovery teams locate stolen items by communicating their whereabouts through geofencing and cellular networks.

To increase security and reduce losses, the best systems integrate detection (cameras, sensors), delay (locks, barriers), and response (alarms, quick police notification).
