Halle (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – A Driver hit a crash absorber near Halle on the Brussels ring. Firefighter Jeanfils: man rescued, not critical. Police probing cause amid roadwork safety fears.

As VRT News reported, last night, June 27, 2025, an accident occurred on the inner ring road around Brussels, close to Halle, where road construction is currently in progress. A crash absorber, designed to shield workers and equipment from traffic, was positioned in the left lane.

Despite this safety measure, a driver appears to have missed the device and crashed into it at high speed. The driver was trapped inside the vehicle, leading to an immediate response from emergency services.

What caused the crash into a work zone Barrier near Halle?

Wouter Jeanfils, from the fire department, said a doctor from the MUG (Mobile Urgent Group) helped the driver first. The doctor gave the man emergency care right away. After the man was stable, firefighters carefully took him out of the car.

He said they had to carefully cut parts of the car so as not to do any additional harm to the driver. The man was not going to die, but he needed help. They transported him to the hospital to have another check and treatment.

No one was in the crash absorber when the car hit it. Officials mentioned that these devices usually have people working nearby during road work. If someone had been there, the accident could have been much worse. The police are trying to find out why the driver didn’t see the crash absorber, especially since there were signs for the road work.

According to officials, another crash happened on the E40 near Ternat. People are worried that drivers aren’t paying attention in work zones. They’re also worried about the signs and lights. Experts want drivers to slow down and watch out for road work. Crash absorbers help, but they can’t stop all accidents if drivers aren’t careful.
