A bus and a tram crashed in Ghent around 11:00 a.m.  5 people were injured, 3 on the bus and 2 on the tram.  Emergency crews took the injured people to the hospital.  Both the bus driver and the tram driver were okay, but they were very shaken up by the crash.

“The two drivers were physically unharmed, but they are both very impressed,”

Said Ine Pieters, spokeswoman for De Lijn.

How did the Ghent Zuid crash disrupt city transport?

The crash caused a lot of problems for people trying to get around the city.  The Ghent Zuid stop couldn’t be used because the wreckage was in the way. Buses were forced to alter their routes to miss the collision, but they were delayed nonetheless.

Authorities said that the collision also brought the trams in the region to a halt, making it even more difficult for individuals to reach their destinations. The officials said the accident had a significant effect on public transportation users.
