Oud-Heverlee (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Trees are being cut down at Zoet Water in Oud-Heverlee as part of a €3 million project by Flanders, the province, and the Agency for Nature and Forests to improve the area.
Trees are being cut down at Oud-Heverlee municipality’s Zoet Water in Belgium‘s Flemish Brabant province. The plan, according to the authorities, is to renovate the ponds and the natural landscape surrounding the ponds. The plan includes cleaning the ponds and making the area more natural.
This project will take 2 years to complete. Some people are worried about the trees being cut down. But the people in charge of the project say they are only cutting down the trees that need to be cut down. They are trying to save as many trees as possible. The work will make space for the big changes that will happen in the next few months.
“A contractor has been commissioned by the Agency for Nature and Forests to clear all the trees around the Zoet Water,”
Says the alderman.
“They have been very selective in this to leave as many trees as possible standing.
Why are trees being cut down at Zoet Water in Oud-Heverlee?
According to the officials, trees are being removed to make it easier to improve the area along the street. Some trees had to be removed to make space for the work and to make it easier to get to the area. Some people are sad to see the trees go, but the project is meant to help the Zoet Water area in the long run.
People are talking on social media about the trees being cut down at Zoet Water in Oud-Heverlee. Some people thought the trees were healthy, but the city official, Alderman Tom Teck, said they were not. The trees were cut down as part of a plan to improve the area. Many people are sad to see the trees gone and think the area looks like a “battlefield.”
Officials mentioned that they are especially sad because the trees were cut down in the spring when many plants and flowers were blooming. The area looks different now that the trees are gone, and many people miss the green trees that were there before.
Zoet Water is being improved with a big project that costs over 3 million euros. The project is being done by Flanders, the province, the Agency for Nature and Forests, and the local towns. Alderman Teck said that the area may look bare now, but it will be much better when the work is done.
The project involves cleaning the ponds and will change the area a lot. Even though the work is happening, a new park called Pavilion Park opened earlier this month. The park is a new place for people to enjoy while the rest of the area is being improved.
