Driver killed as Porsche crashes into tree in Hasselt

Hasselt (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – A fatal crash occurred On Friday in Runksterkiezel, Hasselt. A Porsche lost control at 23:45, hitting a tree. The driver died. A similar crash in 2005 killed 5 young people.

A fatal car crash occurred on Friday night February 28, 2025, in Hasselt. The accident happened on the Runksterkiezel at approximately 23:45. after driving over a raised intersection, a Porsche lost control and crashed into a tree. The car then stopped in a hedge on the right side of the road. Officials mentioned that the impact was severe, leaving the vehicle heavily damaged. 

According to officials, the severity of the collision suggests that the car was travelling at high speed. Emergency services responded quickly to the scene, attempting to rescue the driver who was trapped inside the wreckage.

What caused the fatal crash on Hasselt’s Runksterkiezel?

The South-West Limburg fire brigade arrived at the scene and worked quickly to free the driver from the wreckage. Despite their efforts, the driver did not survive. Police secured the area and investigated the accident. They mentioned that no traffic expert was needed to investigate further because the cause of the accident was clear.

5 young people were killed in a similar collision that happened close to the same spot in June 2005. Four Uzbek males and a Kazakh woman were among the victims. Their vehicle also lost control and crashed into a tree. None of the occupants survived. While the exact cause of the 2005 crash is unclear.
