Fights disrupt De Warmste week in Bruges: Police and Mayor respond

Bruges (Brussels Morning Newspaper): The first night of De Warmste Week in Bruges had fights near ‘t Zand. Police, led by Chief Yves Rotty, quickly stepped in and made some arrests. Mayor Dirk De Fauw was sorry about the violence. Investigations are still happening to keep things safe.

The first night of De Warmste Week, a popular charity event, was disrupted by fights in the city centre. The trouble started after the event ended, with reports of fights near ‘t Zand and the entertainment area. The local police received many calls and promptly intervened to control the situation. Some people were arrested and branded as “hotheads,” while the others involved are still under investigation. The police are gathering reports and reviewing evidence.

How are the police and the mayor fighting for peace during De Warmste week in Bruges?

The head of the city’s police, Yves Rotty, assured citizens that they were ready to handle the situation. Most officers are patrolling the city, and he said,

“We have a strong presence, both in uniform and in plain clothes.”

He assured that whatever violent issues would be dealt with, and the authorities are concerned that everyone should be safe. Investigations are still going on, and the police are going to stay there, preventing any further problems with the continuation of the event.

Video of a fight that occurred at ‘t Zand on Tuesday night, just before De Warmste Week started, is spreading rapidly online. Mayor Dirk De fauw said he is sorry about the fights, as De Warmste Week is meant to bring people together for a good cause. He acknowledged that with so many people, some problems can occur, but he encouraged everyone to focus on the positive side of the event and let the police take care of things.
