European Parliament to vote on new College of Commissioners

Strasbourg (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – European Parliament to vote on the new College of Commissioners on 27 Nov 2024. Following the vote, a press conference with Roberta Metsola and Ursula von der Leyen will be held.

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will carry out a press conference following the European Parliament’s vote on the College of Commissioners tomorrow 27 Nov 2024 at 13.00. The venue will be Daphne Caruana Galizia Pressroom.

As reported by the press of the European Parliament, the Parliament will vote on ratifying the new College of Commissioners. Ahead of the vote, MEPs will hold a discussion with European Commission President von der Leyen on her squad and programme.

To be approved, the College of Commissioners requires the approval of a majority of the votes cast. Once selected by the EU Parliament and after its formal designation by the European Council via a qualified majority, the new European Commission is anticipated to take up its duties on 1 December 2024.

On 18 July 2024, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who was designated for a second mandate, submitted to the European Parliament her Political Guidelines for the next European Commission 2024-2029. On 17 September, she also put forward a list of Commissioners-designate and picked their portfolios, echoing the ambitions set out in the Political Guidelines.

The Commissioners-designate appear in public hearings at the European Parliament. After that, the Commission as a whole is authorised in a single vote of consent by the Parliament. The European Council, operating by a qualified majority, formally specifies the Commission’s new leadership
