Brussels (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – The European Parliament will hold an extraordinary session on November 19, marking 1,000 days of Russia’s attack on Ukraine.
The European Parliament will carry out an extraordinary session on November 19 in Brussels to observe 1,000 days since the beginning of the Russian military attack on Ukraine, EP President Roberta Metsola notified. She announced that during the session, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will address the MEPs.
Roberta Metsola emphasized that the European Union will persist in supporting Ukraine as long as necessary. She added that the objective of the meeting was to pay tribute to the bravery and heroism of the Ukrainian people.
Last year, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed MEPs in a formal sitting in Brussels on the 9th of February 2023. In his address, President Zelenskyy highlighted how Russia is trying to destroy not only sovereign Ukraine but also the European “way of life”. He summarised how he sees Europe as a continent steeped in regulations, values, equality and fairness, and (…) a place where Ukraine is firmly at home. The Kremlin, on the other hand, is doing its best to destroy European values, President Zelenskyy stated, stressing how Ukraine is fighting for and rescuing Europe from this anti-European force.
Extending the session, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola expressed to President Zelenskyy: “We understand that you are fighting not only for your values but for ours.”
