Leuven (Brussels Morning Newspaper): A drunk man vandalized 16 cars on Tiensesteenweg in Leuven, damaging mirrors and wipers. Police arrested him and notified the car owners. Separately, a drunk driver was stopped, and steering wheels were stolen from three cars in Kessel-Lo.

On 27th October in Leuven, police received several calls about a man vandalizing cars on Tiensesteenweg. Officers quickly arrived and found the suspect near the Colruyt supermarket. The man was visibly drunk and had damaged 16 parked cars by kicking off their left side mirrors and breaking their windshield wipers, leaving a trail of destruction along the street.

How are local authorities responding to recent vandalism and theft incidents in Leuven?

After the arrest, the suspect was taken to the police station. Officers wrote a report about the incident and began notifying the owners of the damaged cars. The police are now working to inform these owners about the damage and assist them with any next steps.

While checking the damaged cars, police heard a car coming from Tiensepoort with screeching tires. They stopped it and found the 31-year-old driver was drunk, so they took his driver’s license for 15 days. In Kessel-Lo, someone stole steering wheels from three parked cars, one on Weerstandlaan, one on Krakauplein, and one on Klaverstraat. The lock on one car was broken, but it’s not clear how the thief got into the others. The steering wheels and a radio were stolen from one car, and sunglasses and perfume were taken from the others.
