Lummen (Brussels Morning Newspaper): The emergency lane will stay closed until spring 2025 for gantry installation, as stated by Debbaut. This ensures safety during rush hour and prevents misuse by drivers.

A solid white line indicates a lane is not open for regular traffic. Debbaut said, “The lane will remain an emergency lane until we install the gantries that will support the signs displaying green arrows or red crosses.” Without these signs, drivers cannot use the lane during rush hour because there’s no way to inform them if a vehicle has broken down.

How will Lummen ensure emergency lane safety until spring 2025?

According to Debbaut, it’s important to have a way to show if a vehicle is broken down. Right now, there’s no clear way to do that. Until the signs and gantries are set up, the lane will be for emergencies only. To keep everyone safe and ensure drivers know what to do during busy times.

Currently, drivers are using the lanes as if there are no roadworks, and this will continue until the signal bridges are installed in spring 2025. As a result, the peak lane will not open until then. AWV states that installing these gantries will cause minimal disruption, as they will include detection loops in the road to monitor traffic. Debbaut noted that this work will not cause as much disruption as seen in recent months, although there may be limited closures of the highway.
