Explosion in Uccle, Brussels building

Brussels (The Brussels Morning Newspaper): On rue des Carmélites in Uccle, Brussels an explosion took place within a structure that resulted in extensive destruction although there were no casualties. The officials have begun an inquiry into the blast that is suspected to have been caused by a heavy firecracker while they believe it is part of a personal quarrel and not drug related. 

On the night of the incident, Marlow police region that consists of Uccle, Auderghem and Watermael-Boitsfort reported it. The blast happened in a building located on rue des Carmélites in Uccle as according to Laurent Masset, the police spokesperson. Firefighters were included in teams that rushed to the spot but only discovered that there were no traces of fire.

What caused the explosion in Uccle?

As emergency services arrived, they found that a major explosive device, probably a large firework, had detonated at the apartment’s front door. Fortunately, there were no deaths resulting from the explosion. However, its power blew out the entrance hall doors. Police helped approximately ten inhabitants to evacuate to safety. The Brussels Prosecutor’s office is aware and commissioned an investigation. Federal policemen who are lab technicians and an explosives specialist proceeded to check the location for evidence.

But a local police spokesman said on a site investigation now points to solving private conflicts rather than engaging again in drug activities which will not stand a chance of being stamped out. “He concluded by adding that with the investigation in process more information will appear over time. Those people who were sent away are now able to go back to their homes having been in quarantine since they along the same lines, it has been found safe for the residents evacuated to return home once more after a full site analysis.
