Brussels (The Brussels Morning Newspaper): The discussions regarding Belgiums EU Commissioner have become more serious since Bart De Wevers resignation. Didier Reynders is likely to be reinstalled in his former position while the deadline for applications is August 30.

On Monday and Wednesday Prévot was still receiving the parties  negotiating teams separately but on Thursday at around noon he gathered them together for the first time since Bart De Wever  resigned as formator last week. We’re not discussing anything else except whos going to be Belgiums EU commissioner said one of the sources who confirmed the news to Belga News Agency.

Will Didier Reynders be Belgiums EU commissioner nominee?

Ursula von der Leyen the President of the European Commission asked the 27 EU countries to share their candidates by August 30. If Belgium doesnt propose a name by tomorrow the chances of getting a good role for the Belgian EU Commissioner might go down  as per insider sources. As none of the five groups are showing interest it seems like Didier Reynders from MR is in the lead to be reappointed. He has previously served as the European Commissioner for Justice over the last five years. If no other candidates step forward Reynders is likely to continue in this role based on current indications.

Sophie WilmĂ©s who used to be Belgiums Prime Minister was also thought about for the job  but she said no because shes now the Vice President of the European Parliament. This means Didier Reynders from MR is the top choice for the position since none of the other groups are interested. Because Reynders was the European Commissioner for Justice before  its very probable he’ll get chosen again unless someone new comes up before the deadline.
