Brussels (The Brussels Morning Newspaper): One of the bigger surprises was the bronze judo won by Gabriella Willems. On top of this part of a haul of 10 medals for Belgium the success shows that the nation does indeed keep fit for the Olympics an inspiration for possible future athletes.

Team Belgium didn’t start strong at the Olympics but then Remco Evenepoel and Wout Van Aert won gold and bronze in the time trial. A week later Remco won another gold in the mens road race. The next day Lotte Kopecky got a bronze in the women’s road race. During the Olympics Gabriella Willems won a surprise bronze in judo. In the last three days. Belgiums medal count doubled. Fabio Van den Bossche secured bronze in the Omnium cycling event. Nafi Thiam continued her winning streak by claiming gold in the women’s heptathlon for the third consecutive Olympic Games.

What were Belgiums medal achievements at the 2024 olympics?

In the 67 kg taekwondo competition Sarah Chaari has earned a bronze medal. Marathon runner Bashir Abdi has won another silver medal increasing Team Belgiums total medal count to 10. Its worth mentioning that Belgium has not won 10 or more medals at the Olympics since 1924.  It was in Paris during the 1924 Olympics when Belgian athletes claimed 13 medals.

Except for the canceled 1916 Olympics the biggest medal haul for Belgium until now was during the 1920 Olympics the first and only time that the Games were held in Belgium. At the 1920 Antwerp Olympics Belgium won a total of 36 medals.
