Brussels (The Brussels Morning Newspaper): August was blistering making it the hottest August 12 in the last twenty years and the hottest since 2003. A Code Amber alert was in place though temperatures came in lower than expected and peaked below 35C.
12 August 2024 was when the heat became unbearable and shattered all previous highs set way back in 2003. This can be said to be the most sizzling day of the year since over two decades indicating it was extremely out of character compared to average temperatures usually recorded on any given August 12. Another characteristic that can be said to be worthwhile apart from being too hot for its own good August 12, 2024 now stands out as an important weather point in view of modern changes towards extreme global warming. The same day the KMI headquarters in Ukkel recorded 38.1 degrees Celsius which comes out to be 100.58°F the highest temperature measured since July 19, 2022 to August.
What weather changes occurred in Brussels on August 2024?
On August 12, 2024 there was an amber code heat alert for the whole country as warned by weather forecast but the later part of that day saw a shift to yellow code warning for most areas except the western three provinces. These parts are still projected to have temperature levels above 35 Degrees Celsius. These temperatures at KMIs weather stations didnt actually get up to 35 Degrees Cecilius like expected. Even though some places were over 34 Degrees Celsius none of them reached 35 Degrees Celsius at any station. Therefore, it was really hot but not as extreme as anticipated hence less damaging than they believed originally.
Tuesday August 13, 2024,a little bit lower than yesterday temperature wise. Still at 24° C along the coasts that’s somewhat endurable. It would have been as high as 32° C in the Kempen region of the provinces of Antwerp and Limburg. This is a forecast that the extreme heat is being replaced by better temperatures in different areas across the country.
