Brussels boosts cycling infrastructure with 28 new projects

Brussels (Brussels Morning): Brussels is investing heavily in cycling infrastructure including new bike parking facilities, bike sheds and bike lanes across the city to encourage sustainable and healthy transportation.

Brussels is making more bike stuff with 28 new projects in 13 areas. In Anderlecht they’re putting in 10 bike boxes for 5 bikes each and 5 bike boxes for 2 cargo bikes each. This is to give safe and easy parking for both normal bikes and cargo bikes helping all kinds of commuters in the area. They’re building a new bike shed at LycĂ©e Sour Emmanuelle in Anderlecht. It’s going to hold about 20 bikes and give students and staff a special and safe spot to keep their bikes. These projects show that Brussels really wants to make biking easier and cooler in the city cutting down on traffic and pollution while getting people to be healthier.

How are Brussels universities promoting sustainable transportation through expanded bike parking facilities?

They’re making more bike parking spots at UniversitĂ© Saint-Louis in Brussels adding 38 new spaces. They want both teachers and students to start biking more as a way to get around sustainably. By giving better parking options the university wants to cut down on using cars and encourage healthier ways to travel in the city center. This fits with their big goals to be more eco-friendly, reduce traffic and lessen the environmental effects of regular driving. ULB is doing big things for biking. They’re building a covered bike parking spot at La Cambre Horta that can hold 334 bikes keeping them safe from bad weather. At the Ixelles campus they’re setting up a bike parking area with 54 spaces and a special workshop for bikes. This all helps students and staff bike more making the campus greener and healthier while cutting down on emissions.

How is the ‘Bikes in Brussels’ initiative investing millions to expand cycling infrastructure?

Bikes in Brussels has been important since 2018 putting 7.5 million euros into 120 projects to boost biking in the city. They’re all about making cycling better and safer cutting down on the environment’s impact. The money has helped with lots of things like new bike parking spots and special biking areas in different parts of Brussels. They’re planning to build a bike parking spot at Botanique in Saint-Josse-ten-Node to make biking easier there. In Schaerbeek, they’re working on a bike route and area around Josaphatstraat for safer biking paths. At the Delta site in Oudergem the CHIREC hospital group is making a new bike parking area with 140 spots to help healthcare workers, patients, and visitors choose sustainable transport. It has been said that Brussels is serious about being a city that’s great for biking, promoting healthier and eco-friendly ways to get around.
