In Brussels at Ninoofsepoort a guy on a scooter got into an accident with a tram which was serious and he had to go to the hospital because of his injuries. This accident made the tram stop temporarily in that area. It’s part of a bigger issue where e-scooter accidents in Brussels have gone up a lot in the last two years. This increase is because of things like it being hard to see at intersections and people taking risks especially during nightlife. More e-scooter accidents are happening in Brussels because of these reasons.
What Caused the Serious Tram Accident in Brussels and How Are Authorities Responding?
This morning 27 June 2024 someone saw a guy stuck under tram line 51. The emergency team came quickly and it took about 5 to 10 minutes for the fire department to get him out safely. They then rushed him to the hospital right away for more help. The man was rescued from under the tram and taken to the hospital for treatment. The transport company in Brussels said he was awake when they put him in the ambulance. It has been said that he was on a scooter and went through a red light which led to him being on the tram tracks. Police are still investigating what exactly happened. Man was in batter position when taken to the ambulance.
Because of this accident tram line 51 had to stop between Marguerite Duras and Anderlechtsepoort for a bit. The transport company in Brussels wants everyone to be super careful around trams and always pay attention. They say trams take longer to stop than normal cars so it’s really important to be cautious to prevent accidents.
