Bicycle Parking Subscribers Double YoY: 1,555

After an initial small increase from 550 to 788 in four months in 2021, the number of subscribers to large bicycle parks rose to 1,555 in 2022.

Els Rochette, member of parliament one.brussels-Vooruit: “Vooruit, then still SP.A, campaigned in August 2012 to use the underground space in the Beurs metro station as a bicycle parking. The parking lot has now arrived. De Brouckère also got a similar car park. Brussels residents are gradually finding their way to the secure car parks and that is necessary.”

However, the fact that there are many subscriptions to the car parks does not mean that the occupancy rate of the car parks is equally high. For example, subscribers may not always use the car parks. In addition, no data on the types of bicycles are available. However, this lack of data can be crucial to meeting the cyclist’s capacity and needs.

Figures on nighttime use also appear to be unavailable. “However, that data is easy to read,” says the politician.

Bicycle theft
The bicycle parking areas are also not completely safe. For example, 8 bicycles were stolen last year. Which is striking, since it concerns car parks with not only camera surveillance, but also social control.

“The data on gender are also still missing. The aim is to get a clearer picture of who the subscribers are, so that we can better respond to their needs.”
