La Louvière, Belgium, 29 August (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Elias Filet brought RAAL La Louvière back level against KV Mechelen with a headed finish during Saturday’s Belgian Pro League meeting, giving the home side an important response in their fourth league fixture of the season. The Elias Filet goal came with La Louvière seeking their first points after a difficult opening three matches.
The match was scheduled for 16:00 local time on 29 August at La Louvière’s home ground, with both clubs entering the fixture under early-season pressure. La Louvière had lost their opening three league games, while Mechelen had taken one point from their first three.
Why Filet’s equaliser matters for La Louvière
Filet’s contribution was particularly significant because the 24-year-old French centre-forward had yet to score in the opening three Belgian Pro League matches of the campaign. He had started against Anderlecht, Gent and Standard Liège without finding the net.
La Louvière’s start had been difficult. They lost 2-1 away to Anderlecht on 9 August, suffered another 2-1 defeat at home to Gent on 16 August and were then beaten 2-0 by Standard Liège on 21 August. Those results left them pointless going into the Mechelen fixture.
That made the Elias Filet goal more than simply an equaliser. La Louvière needed an attacking response after scoring only twice across their opening three league games.
Filet joined La Louvière during the summer after playing for FC Aarau. The Paris-born striker, who stands 1.86 metres tall, is contracted to the Belgian club until June 2028.

The immediate challenge for La Louvière is to turn competitive performances into points. Their first three matches demonstrated how costly defensive lapses and missed attacking opportunities can become in Belgium’s top flight.
Saturday’s match also carried importance because Mechelen had experienced their own difficult opening. They entered the contest with one point from three matches following defeats against Gent and Charleroi and a 3-3 draw with Standard Liège.
The Elias Filet goal therefore gave La Louvière an opportunity to change the direction of a match involving two sides looking for early-season momentum.

After facing Mechelen, La Louvière are scheduled to travel to Sint-Truiden on 5 September before returning home to face Kortrijk on 13 September. Their following league fixture is away against OH Leuven on 19 September.
Those matches will provide another measure of how quickly the promoted side can adapt to the demands of the Belgian Pro League. Filet’s emergence as a scoring option would be particularly valuable as La Louvière attempt to move away from the lower end of the standings and establish themselves during the 2026-27 campaign.
