Europe (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Brigitte Bardot, an iconic French actress, died at 91 on December 28, 2025. Famous for And God Created Woman, she later founded an animal rights foundation after retiring in 1973.

As Euro News reported, Brigitte Bardot, the French film actress who became one of the most recognisable faces of the 20th century, has died at the age of 91. She passed away on December 28, 2025. Bardot rose to international fame in 1956 with And God Created Woman, directed by Roger Vadim.

During the 1950s and 1960s, she starred in dozens of films and became one of the most photographed public figures in the world. Her image appeared widely in newspapers, magazines and film posters.

What did Brigitte Bardot do after leaving film?

Bardot ended her acting career in 1973. She was 39 years old. After retiring, she stepped away from public entertainment and focused on animal protection. In 1986, she established the Brigitte Bardot Foundation, using the proceeds from the sale of personal items to support its work.

Bridget Bardot’s later years have seen an increase in interest in her work, but they have also been marked by controversy. Bardot has been convicted in French courts on multiple occasions for statements that were interpreted as inciting racial hate against certain ethnic groups.

These trials sparked considerable debate over whether Bardot should remain a public figure; yet, despite those convictions, Bardot’s impact on film, fashion, and popular culture will continue to be felt for many years to come. The print and television media continue to cover Bardot’s career as an actress and her more recent involvement with activism.
