The Tarandus Mill in Gavere was in really bad shape. People are spending €240,000 to make sure it stays strong and works properly. Miller André De Temmerman is very happy about the project. He has worked hard to keep old mills like this safe for a long time. He said that fixing up these old mills is important because they are part of Flanders’ history and culture. He takes care of old mills. He is glad it will stay.
That mill is my life’s work, I like it.

André De Temmerman is also the miller at Ter Rist Mill in Herzele. He has been there for 30 years. The Ter Rist Mill was built in 1794. It made flour and oil. It stopped working in 1938. It was fixed in 1978. But the mill and the miller’s house needed more work. They got €107,000 to fix the roof, the outside, and the sails. This will keep the mill safe for a long time.
De Temmerman mentioned that it is his passion and hobby. He would be sad if it disappeared. Saving these old mills is important for Flanders. He said that they are part of the culture. People can learn about how people lived and worked in the past.
The mill is my life’s work and my hobby. I also really like it and would find it incredibly sad if the mill were to disappear.
