Oudebergen (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Trishka, a 23-year-old bear, was rescued by the Wildlife Rescue Centre Oudebergen after her home was demolished. Thoelen says she’s adjusting well during her 3-month quarantine.
A 23-year-old bear, Trishka, on April 25, 2025, was rescued from Frankfurt Airport by the staff of the Wildlife Rescue Centre, Oudebergen, a Limburg province municipality in Belgium. Officials say Trishka had been in travel for 2 days but was calm and behaved herself during the entire journey.
Where will rescued Bear Trishka find her new home?
Trishka the bear arrived at the Wildlife Rescue Centre, and the staff were very happy to see her. They mentioned that Trishka didn’t seem scared or angry at all when they unloaded her from the truck. She sniffed around and explored, clearly taking in all the new smells.
Trishka will stay at the centre for 3 months. Officials mentioned that it’s important to make sure Trishka doesn’t have any diseases that could affect other animals. The staff will watch Trishka closely during this time.
The centre wants to find a new home for Trishka. They want to make sure it’s a good place for her to live. They mentioned that they have a special place for bears. But the centre is still looking for the best place for Trishka. They want to make sure she goes to a place where she can live happily.
Trishka’s owner had called the rescue centre for assistance because he was emigrating abroad and could not take Trishka with him. Trishka had been kept in a cage beside his home, but the house and cage had to be demolished, so Trishka found herself homeless.
The Wildlife Rescue Centre worked hard to save her. They negotiated to keep her cage safe while the house was torn down. This gave them time to get the paperwork to move her to a new home. Trishka is now the only bear at the Wildlife Rescue Centre. The centre has cared for other bears in the past. Trishka will be cared by experts.
“It’s still early, but for now, Trishka is doing well,”
Says Thoelen.
“She has digested the journey well.”
