Haacht (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – The Zomerbar in Haacht, organised by Les Cousins and Bram Deronde, ended after 7 years due to new rules and rising costs. The event, held at Heerlyckheid van Roost, attracted many visitors.

The Zomerbar in Haacht, a municipality in the province of Flemish Brabant, Belgium, is ending after 7 years.  The event, run by a group called Les Cousins with lots of volunteers, was very popular in the town.  One of the organisers, Bram Deronde, said it was hard to decide to stop the Zomerbar, but they had to.

He mentioned that the main problems were the new rules that were hard to follow and the cost of running the event.  The Zomerbar was held in a park called Heerlyckheid van Roost, which has old castle ruins. He said that the park was nice, but it was getting harder to organise the event there because it was getting bigger and more people were coming.

What led to the closure of Zomerbar in Haacht?

The final decision to end the Zomerbar came when the town and the Flemish Land Agency made new rules. Officials stated that these regulations made it impossible to have the event the way it was intended. One of the largest issues was that trucks could not be in the park anymore.

They stated that trucks were required to transport drinks and to install items such as light and sound systems. Without trucks, it was too hard to organise the Zomerbar.  The cost of running the event was also going up.  Because of the new rules and the high cost, Les Cousins couldn’t keep the Zomerbar going.  They had to stop the event after 7 years.

Last year, the Zomerbar had a lot of problems because of rain.  The event was held in a park near some old castle ruins, but there was a big ditch around the ruins.  The ditch filled with water, and the organisers had to cancel the event.

They tried to make it work, but the flooding was too bad.  This made things even harder for the organisers because they had to deal with a lot of unexpected problems.  Bram Deronde said that this time, they couldn’t fix the problems.  He said the Zomerbar was going to end for good.

According to officials, the Zomerbar was a really important part of what made summer in Haacht so special. Bram said it was one of the most important events that happened in the town during the summer. Haacht has other fun things to do in the summer too, like the Jan Primus parties, where there is music and DJS at the Mark in Haacht, and the Swing Wespelaar blues festival.

“We tried to find another location for our Summer Bar in Haacht, but that didn’t work out. Still, we’re not going to give up. We definitely plan to organise other activities with our group of friends. Like our Open Beer Day this Saturday, where you can discover more than 100 different beers,”

Bram concludes.
