Ypres (Brussels Morning Newspaper) The N308 road in Vlamertinge, Ypres, will be renovated for 3-4 years. It will include speed zones and safer paths for cyclists and pedestrians.

The N308 road in Vlamertinge, Ypres, will be fixed next year in 2026. The goal is to make it safer for everyone, especially cyclists and pedestrians. New speed zones of 30 km/h and 50 km/h will be added to help drivers go slower. This will help protect people who are more at risk.

There will be better paths for cyclists and pedestrians. Parking will still be available in the village center for residents and visitors. Evelien Van de Caetsbeeck from the Roads and Traffic Agency says the plan will focus on keeping traffic slow to ensure safety while still allowing cars to pass through.

How will the N308 road upgrade transform Vlamertinge?

The construction work on the N308 road will take three to four years. This will affect residents and local businesses. There will be noise and dust, and some roads will be hard to access. Traffic will change, which may cause problems for the community. Alderman Stephaan De Roo (CD&V) said the project will make the village safer and more attractive. It will also improve life for the people living there. The changes will make Vlamertinge a better place for everyone.

The N308 road in Vlamertinge will get new public lighting, which officials say will make the area safer and more welcoming. The changes aim to attract shop owners and visitors. Officials hope that a nicer look will make drivers stop and visit local shops. They know the construction will be hard on businesses, but they believe the improvements will help them recover later. With better roads, more plants, and safer streets, the project wants to make Vlamertinge a lively place for everyone.

Local concerns over parking amid N308 road upgrades

Some local people are worried about the plans for the N308 road. Trader Hendrik Olivier has concerns about parking. He believes there will be enough parking during the week, but weekends and evenings could be difficult. He fears that having fewer parking spaces might keep customers away, especially during busy times.

Olivier appreciates the idea of adding more greenery, but it could affect businesses if people cannot find parking. He mentioned that these concerns show that it is important to balance making the area look nice and ensuring it works well for residents and local shops.

The N308 road connects Ypres to Poperinge and is important in World War I history. It was used for military operations and to help injured soldiers. It is close to key battle sites like Passchendaele, making it vital for moving soldiers and providing medical support during the war.
