Hasselt (Brussels Morning Newspaper): Next summer, renovations will begin at the former Christian Mutuality building in Hasselt for the Wit-Gele Kruis Limburg, moving from Genk by 2027. The project costs €17.5 million and includes a skills lab and seminar space. Nadja Vananroye is involved.

Next summer, comic strip works will start at the former main building of the Christian Mutuality on Prins-Bisschopssingel 75 in Hasselt. After renovations, the Wit-Gele Kruis Limburg will move from Genk to the Grote Ring in Hasselt by 2027. This move will bring together different services that are currently in various locations into one place, including administrative support and a logistics center for distributing resources.

What changes are coming for the nursing department in Hasselt’s Herkenrode area?

The nursing department for the Herkenrode area, which includes Hasselt and nearby towns, will move to a new building with the nursing station. Nadja Vananroye said people can get injections there. The White-Yellow Cross will cut its departments from 29 to 19, but care teams will still be active. The new building will have training courses and space for seminars with up to 150 people. There will be a ‘skills lab’ that looks like a living room for staff to practice their work. The third floor will be rented out, and the new tenant will need to furnish it. The White-Yellow Cross wants to attract groups from the welfare sector or new healthcare start-ups.

The TM Groep Van Roey-Artem consortium expects to receive the building permit application by mid-next year. After the summer break, they will begin demolishing parts of the current building, aiming to complete the new structure by the end of 2026. The Wit-Gele Kruis will then move its services from Genk to Hasselt in early 2027. The renovation will cost 17.5 million euros, and a full 3D model of the building is being created. This allows the client to use virtual reality to explore the space and provide feedback before construction starts.
