Hasselt (Brussels Morning Newspaper): Winterland’s 16th edition begins on November 15, 2024, attracting 600,000 visitors. Organizer Maurice Schoenmaeckers highlights enhanced security with 60 new cameras and thermal monitoring in a 13,000-square-meter area.

The 16th edition of Winterland is set to begin on November 15 in Hasselt. This event attracts around 600,000 visitors each year with its festive attractions. Winterland features a Ferris wheel, an ice rink, and a Christmas market where guests can find unique gifts for the holiday season.

How will Winterland ensure visitor safety with 60 new cameras and thermal monitoring?

It has been said that to keep everyone safe and manage the big crowd, Winterland will use a strong surveillance system. In previous years, cameras were placed and watched from a control room. This year, they will add 60 more cameras to help with security and ensure everything runs well. These steps will help ensure that all visitors have a safe and fun time.

This year, Winterland will use thermal cameras to count how many people enter the square. Organizer Maurice Schoenmaeckers says this will help them know how many visitors are inside. The area is 13,000 square meters, and if it gets too crowded, they will take action. Last year, they closed the entrance at times and only let new people in when others left. There will also be large screens to show emergency messages if needed. Winterland in Hasselt opens on November 15 and runs for 7 weeks until January 5, 2025.
