Moorsele ( Brussels Morning Newspaper) – In Moorsele, a statue on the children’s art trail by Chantal de Wold was vandalised. CD&V’s Bas Surmont called it serious. The trail stays open until August 17, 2025.

As VRT News reported, in Moorsele, a village near Wevelgem, in the province of West Flanders, Belgium, a large statue on a children’s art trail by Chantal de Wold was damaged. The art trail has 7 statues made by Dutch artist Chantal de Wold. The statues are popular with children and families. On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, a local volunteer saw the damage and told the town.

A worker came to look and found more problems. Not only was the big statue broken, but also some signs nearby. The damaged statue is one of the biggest on the trail. The town thinks someone may have done it on purpose. But they are not sure yet. The town is now working with the artist to fix the statue quickly.

What caused the damage to the Chantal de Wold statue?

Bas Surmont, from the CD&V party, is concerned about what happened to the art trail. He suggests it’s a significant thing for the village, both on a cultural and social level. Even though the trail is still accessible, the sculpture that is damaged is cordoned off for safety reasons. Officials are also contemplating how to discourage this from happening again.

The art trail contains colourful sculptures by Chantal de Wold in the Groen Lint area. The city is sad about the damage to the art trail in Moorsele. An official said it’s a shame someone would do this. The trail is in a nice area, but maybe it needs more watching.

Even with the damage, the art trail is still open until August 17, 2025. The city wants families to still enjoy the art. They are also thinking about how to protect the art and keep Moorsele a fun place.
