Brussels (Brussels Morning Newspaper): Flanders is experiencing unstable weather after Storm Floriane. Today, there will be rain, melting snow, and hail. Caution is advised on slippery roads.

According to the Royal Meteorological Institute (KMI), today’s weather will remain unstable after the strong winds and heavy rain from storm Floriane. Flanders will be showered with rain all day, but some areas might receive melting snow or even hail. The weather could change quickly, especially during these showers. Some strong winds from the storm may still be present, making outdoor activities and travel difficult.

What are the weather conditions and warnings for Flanders on 7 January?

The weather on 7 January could make roads slippery, especially in areas with hail or melting snow. The KMI has advised everyone to be cautious while driving or walking, particularly during and right after rain or snow, with this risk lasting until 7 PM. Visibility might be poor, and there could be sudden icy spots. In the Ardennes, melting snow is expected, and there may be more snow later, especially above 400 meters, where a layer of 1 to 5 centimetres could form. Temperatures will vary, with highs around 0 degrees in the High Ardennes and 4 to 6 degrees in other regions. Tonight, on 7 January, some snow showers may occur in the High Fens, but most of the country should stay dry with clear skies, though the south might see more low clouds. Minimum temperatures will be around 0 to -1 degrees, and slippery roads could still be a concern.

What weather can we expect in Flanders on January 8 and 9?

Tomorrow 8 January, will start with high clouds, but we’ll see some sunshine now and then. During the day, it will become cloudier, and by late afternoon, weather from France will arrive. Temperatures will be around freezing in the Ardennes and between 2 and 4 degrees in other areas. On 9 January Thursday morning, expect lots of clouds and a chance of snow, especially in the east and south, while the coast might enjoy some sunny spells. The High Fens could still see some snow until evening, with temperatures ranging from -1 to 5 degrees.
