Wielsbeke (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Unilin invested €30M in a new AI-powered production line in Wielsbeke, making 15M m² of laminate yearly. Ruben Desmet highlights efficiency. Matthias Diependaele praises Unilin’s role in Flanders’ industry.
Unilin, a flooring firm, has established a new production facility in Wielsbeke, West Flanders province, Belgium. Authorities stated that the new facility, which took €30 million to construct, can produce 15 million square meters of laminate flooring annually. It uses artificial intelligence and cameras to make the flooring look and feel like real wood.
Unilin mentioned that this is the most advanced laminate press in the world. The company’s head of production, Ruben Desmet, says the new technology makes the process more efficient and creates a high-quality flooring product. This new line is a big step forward for Unilin and the flooring industry.
How is Unilin’s €30M investment in changing the Wielsbeke flooring?
Unilin is investing in new technologies and sustainability. They have invested €30 million to expand their luxury vinyl tile (LVT) manufacturing in Belgium. They also developed the world’s first ever vinyl flooring recycling process.
Unilin, a big flooring company, just got a new machine that makes flooring faster. This new machine makes things 25% faster than their other machines. They now make 50 million square meters of laminate flooring yearly.
Matthias Diependaele, a leader in the Flemish region, visited Unilin and was impressed with the new machines. He said that Unilin is a good example of how technology and traditional skills can work together.
Diependaele thinks that these investments are important for keeping Flanders a leader in flooring technology. He mentioned that by using new technology, Unilin is not only making their own business better, but also making Flanders a stronger place for manufacturing.
