UAE and EU Council presidents work to boost bilateral ties

Abu Dhabi (The Brussels Morning Newspaper) – UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Charles Michel, President of the European Council, have consulted ways to develop and expand connections to serve the common interests of all sides and promote growth and prosperity.

During the meeting, which took place at Qasr Al Shati in Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohamed highlighted the deep connections between the UAE and the European Union, as well as the ongoing dedication to strengthening these relations to sustain their shared goals and foster peace and development at both the regional and global levels.

How Will the UAE-EU Summit in Brussels Shape Future Relations Between the Two Regions?

The discussion also touched upon the upcoming Gulf Cooperation Council-European Union summit scheduled for October in Brussels. The UAE President and Michel highlighted the significance of the summit in promoting relations, especially in economic and developmental areas and arranging the stage for further progress in the years ahead.

Both sides stressed the seriousness of escalating tensions in the region and the urgent need for international efforts to contain and control the expansion of conflicts, which pose a threat to regional security and peace.

How Are the UAE and EU Collaborating to Address the Crisis in Gaza and Promote Regional Stability?

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and the European Council President also examined several regional and international issues of mutual consideration, particularly developments in the Middle East. They stressed the importance of reaching an urgent ceasefire arrangement in the Gaza Strip to allow for adequate humanitarian aid to ease the suffering of its residents. They also highlighted the need to de-escalate tensions in the West Bank and to make for a permanent and stable peace approach based on the two-state solution.

Sheikh Mohamed restated the UAE’s support for all efforts sought to bring an end to the conflict in Gaza and promote stability and peace in the region. He also emphasised the UAE’s commitment to collaborating with the European Union and other concerned parties to improve the humanitarian response to the worsening crisis in Gaza and support regional stability.

Charles Michel hailed the UAE’s position in support of the Gulf-European association and its influential humanitarian role in Gaza. He also praised the UAE’s contributions to peace and stability in the Middle East.
