Turnhout (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Turnhout city wrote to NMBS about train delays, with 1 in 5 trains late. Stijn Adriaensens and Erik Vos emphasised improving schedules and future solutions to ensure timely arrivals.
As VRT News reported, the city of Turnhout is not happy about the train delays. They have sent a letter to the NMBS, the Belgian train company, asking for better train times. They are worried because 1 in 5 trains are late at Turnhout station. Stijn Adriaensens, who is in charge of transportation, said Turnhout is important for the area and needs trains that arrive on time.
He explained that Turnhout is at the end of the line, and the trains have only one track. This makes the delays worse because trains get late along the way and can’t be moved around. The city wants to help people who take the train every day, as their schedules are often disrupted by the delays.
Will NMBS address Turnhout’s train delay concerns?
The idea to write to the NMBS came from Erik Vos, who is in the TIM party. The city council agreed with the idea, which is not always the case. Stijn Adriaensens said that good ideas from the opposition should be supported.
The city council quickly wrote the letter, and everyone agreed to send it. Turnhout wants to fix the train delays and will work together to do it. The city is now waiting for the NMBS to reply. They hope the train company will make changes to help the trains arrive on time in Turnhout.
“We are an important city with a lot of employment and many schools, so it is important that travellers can leave and arrive on time”,
Stijn Adriaensens said.
Stijn Adriaensens from Turnhout knows that fixing the train delays will take time. He said that big changes, like building a new track, take a long time. There is no easy solution to this problem.
The city wants to talk to the NMBS to find ways to make the train service better for the future. Adriaensens knows that big projects need a lot of planning and money. He hopes they can find solutions so the trains will run on time in Turnhout.
According to Adriaensens, some things can be done now to help with the delays. He says trains often leave Binche late, and this makes them late everywhere else, including Turnhout. He thinks the train company could manage the delays better as the trains travel.
He mentioned that if they plan the schedules better and find ways to make up time, some of the delays could be fixed without building anything new. Turnhout is a busy city, and many people use the train station. So, the trains must be on time. The city hopes to work with NMBS to find ways to make the trains run better right now.
