On January 24, 2025, two houses in Tongerlo and Zoerle-Parwijs became targets of gunfire, which resulted in emergency police intervention. The
response from authorities resulted in the capture of a 39-year-old suspect. A shooting incident in January 2025 targeted two houses found in the Zoerle-Parwijs and Tongerlo sub-districts of the Westerlo community before dawn.
No injuries occurred in the night-time attacks because the two residences were empty, according to Het Laatste Nieuws and an investigation from the Antwerp public prosecutor’s office. Police authorities quickly captured a 39-year-old male suspect who reportedly carried out the shootings. According to reports from Het Laatste Nieuws and confirmed by the Antwerp public prosecutor’s office, no injuries were reported as no one was present in either residence at the time of the attacks.
Around 3 a.m., residents in Elf-Julilaan in Tongerlo were abruptly woken up when they heard gunshots,
says Lieselotte Claessens of the Antwerp public prosecutor’s office. Eight bullet holes were subsequently found on the facade of the house.
No one was present in the house, and there were no injuries.
Shortly afterwards, shots were also fired at a house in Vijfhuizenstraat in Zoerle-Parwijs.
No one was present in that building either,
says Claessens.
A suspect was arrested shortly after the incident, a 39-year-old man. He will appear before the investigating judge today on suspicion of attempted murder.
According to people who live in the area, the suspect is thought to be the former partner of one of the women who live in the affected houses. Media reports conclude the attacks targeted the houses of the victim as well as those of her parents.
