Tienen (Brussels Morning Newspaper): Residents of Reynaertsbaantje face safety concerns due to a completely dark path for cyclists and walkers. Torsin highlights the lack of lighting and plans a Halloween event to advocate for street lights, linking it to the upcoming city council’s focus on public safety and the Vianderdomein master plan.

Residents of Tienen face a daily challenge as the path, meant for cyclists and walkers, is completely dark at night. Many people feel unsafe using it at night, leading them to choose longer routes. Torsin mentions, “There is not too little light, but simply no light at all.” This isn’t the first time locals have asked for street lights, they’ve reached out to politicians before, but the issue still hasn’t been fixed.

How can Tienen residents advocate for lighting on Reynaertsbaantie this Halloween?

According to Torsin, adding lights to Reynaertsbaantje is challenging because there’s a stream next to it and no power supply available. He mentioned that Halloween night felt like a good opportunity to raise the issue again, especially since it could fit into the Vianderdomein master plan. With the new city council starting soon and their focus on safety and improving public spaces, Torsin believes it’s the perfect time to discuss the need for better lighting.

Residents planned a fun Halloween night to enjoy together. Torsin explained that they wanted to combine useful activities with enjoyable ones, as they often do events like barbecues and parties. Instead of complaining about the lack of lighting, they organized a fun evening with waffles and a “pumpkin carving workshop,” where everyone carved pumpkins together.
