Flanders (Brussels Morning Newspaper) -Flemish residents are already getting ready for a massive snow that is scheduled to start this evening, Thursday, 9th of January 2025. Most parts of the region have not experienced rain all day, but by evening, they will be having snow.

Today, however, as far as the country’s southeastern regions are concerned, people are likely to experience only heavy rainfall. The Belgian Royal Meteorological Institute (KMI) has issued its warnings for the risk of slips and falls across the nation; a yellow code is in force until midday tomorrow; an orange code is set for the Province of Liège because of ice.

The outlook for Friday morning remains cold, and lows will continue extending from Flandres into the Ardennes, where low clouds evolving into freezing mist are forecasted. During the day, there will be a few instances of rainfall coupled with a variable amount of clouds in the sky. Weather conditions will mostly be freezing in the central areas and will be even lower in the elevated areas. Saturday will follow the same pattern with another cold night followed by a partly cloudy and dry day after low cloud and freezing mist.

Ongoing cold snap and weather trends

The current cold front in Flanders belongs to a sequence of winter weather that has now taken temperatures in various European countries low. This winter season has presented several problems with regard to weather – ice in roads and fog and mist hinder visibility in the early morning or late afternoon. The KMI has also been closely observing these circumstances and repeatedly reporting to enhance the people’s safety.

The expected snow later today will likely make other roads worse, especially for people who will be driving during rush hour. Call on individuals and the public to exercise a lot of care and be ready to endure several inconveniences arising out of unfriendly weather. Further, it is also important to know the possible weather changes that affect day-to-day operations at this time of the year when winter starts to kick in.

While these weather changes are approaching in Flanders, people are advised to always follow the local weather forecasts and avoid travelling in unfavourable conditions. Low temperatures are predicted throughout the week, and there might also be more snow in some areas; hence, people will need to update themselves appropriately during this winter season.
