Sint-Laureins (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Authorities will reconstruct last week’s Sint-Laureins collision in which a 15-year-old boy was seriously injured, aiming to clarify the crash circumstances.

Two individuals were taken into custody on Saturday and again on Sunday.

The court hopes to have a better understanding of the events that transpired in Sint-Margriete on Friday, May 30 in the late afternoon through the reconstruction.

When the 15-year-old child wanted to purchase a vaporizer from the suspects, he and two other juveniles got into a brawl. The three children then ran away. Following them in their vehicle, the suspects struck the youngster before running him over once more.

The 15-year-old child, who was in imminent danger, is now healing after emerging from his coma. It is also said that he recalls everything.

Additional details will be released by the East Flanders, Belgium, Public Prosecutor’s Office as soon as possible on Friday morning.

What safety measures are being discussed to prevent similar accidents in Sint-Laureins?

Putting an emphasis on appropriate training, particularly for young or inexperienced drivers, which includes graduated licensing schemes and supervised driving practice to enhance hazard perception and curb unsafe conduct.

To discourage risky driving practices, police enforcement of speed limits, seat belt use, and prohibitions on distracted or intoxicated driving should be increased.

Lowering vehicle speeds and enhancing pedestrian safety by putting in traffic calming devices such raised intersections, chicanes, speed bumps, and improved signs.

To reduce points of confrontation between cars and vulnerable road users, safer intersections, separated bike lanes, pedestrian walkways, and crossings should be added.

Promoting safer attitudes and behaviors by educating the public on road safety, the value of seat belts, helmets, and responsible driving.
