Sint–Lambrechts-Woluwe (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Proximus’ fibre optic project in Sint-Lambrechts-Woluwe faces issues due to subcontractor mismanagement. The city stopped work for a month, demanding fixes to parking bans, schedules, and sidewalk repairs before resumption.

Residents in Sint-Lambrechts-Woluwe, a Belgian municipality are upset about the way Proximus’ subcontractor is handling the fibre optic project. Residents mentioned that they’re messily banning parking, and they’re not following the times when they’re supposed to stop working.

They said that Proximus is not fixing the sidewalks properly after they’re done working.  The city inspector checked and said that these problems were real.  The city already wrote to Proximus, telling them to make sure the subcontractor follows the rules.  But the problems haven’t been solved.

Why did Sint-Lambrechts-Woluwe halt Proximus’ fibre project?

The city of Sint-Lambrechts-Woluwe is taking action against Proximus because they haven’t been following the rules for their fibre optic project.  The city is stopping Proximus from working for a month.  During that time, Proximus has to fix all the problems, like the bad parking bans, not following the work schedule, and not fixing the sidewalks properly.

The city wants to make sure the project is done right and doesn’t bother people anymore. After the month, the city will check to see if everything is fixed.  If it is, Proximus can start working again.

Proximus seeks to enhance internet connectivity in Sint-Lambrechts-Woluwe by deploying fibre optic cables. They said this is part of a larger plan to enhance Belgium’s internet network. Proximus wants to bring fast internet to almost everyone in Belgium by 2032.  They’re doing this in steps, so different parts of Sint-Lambrechts-Woluwe will get connected over time.

Proximus has permission to do this work, but they have to follow some rules.  One rule is that they have to tell people in the area about the work before it starts.  They send a notice 3 weeks ahead of time, explaining what they’ll be doing and how long it will take.  They also have to put up signs and sometimes restrict parking to keep people safe.

Proximus is installing fibre optic cables in Sint-Lambrechts-Woluwe. According to the officials, they have to use the same materials that were there before.  People who want to get fibre internet can check if it’s available on Proximus’ website.

Proximus mentioned that they’ll try to cause as little disruption as possible and will keep people updated. They said that this fibre optic project would be a big improvement for the internet in Sint-Lambrechts-Woluwe, making the internet faster and more reliable for everyone.
