Rotselaar (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Rotselaar will get its first hockey field by September 2025, backed by a €400,000 loan guarantee from the town. Over 200 Rotselaar Hockey Club members will benefit, says Thomas De Brabandere.

AS VRT News reported, Rotselaar, a municipality in the province of Flemish Brabant, Belgium, will get its 1st hockey field by the end of this year. Officials mentioned that the club has been using a football field, which isn’t ideal for hockey. This has made it hard for the club to grow because of the playing surface and scheduling issues.

Hockey is getting more popular in Belgium, and Rotselaar is seeing the same trend. Thomas De Brabandere from Rotselaar Hockey says they have over 200 members and expect to reach 400 in 300 years. The new field will give the club a proper place to play and help them grow.

What will Rotselaar’s new Hockey field mean for the community?

According to officials, the new hockey field will be great for the club and the community. It means Rotselaar Hockey can have better training, play home games, and focus on young players. The field will also be a place for people to come together.

The project costs a lot of money, but the local government is helping. Patrick Vervoort, who works for the town and takes care of money and sports areas, says the town will return the loan of €400,000. The hockey club got this loan from the bank. Because the town promises to help if needed, the bank gave better loan terms.

They mentioned that the club can pay less interest or take more time to pay it back. This support makes it easier for the club to build the field. The town wants to help sports clubs grow. It also wants to give more people a chance to play sports.

The new hockey pitch in Rotselaar will soon be built after the summer construction break and should be completed before the end of September 2025. The hockey field will primarily serve the local hockey club, whose members continue to grow year by year.

But the municipality wants more people to benefit from it. The hockey club will let schools and sports clubs use the field during the day when they are not in training. The town wants to maximise their investment and promote the best possible access to good sports spaces for all ages.
