Mechelen (The Brussels Morning Newspaper): Police conducted a road check catching multiple drivers for serious offenses including underage moped riding and high alcohol levels. Safety violations led to fines and license suspensions.

The police did a big check on the road and caught six drivers doing really bad thing. They got their licenses taken away for 15 days. Besides them other drivers who did less serious things got banned from driving for 3 to 6 hours depending on how bad their mistakes were during the check. The cops caught a 15-year-old riding a moped which he wasn’t allowed to do because he was too young. The teen said he was rushing to deliver a pizza but that didn’t change the fact that he was breaking the law by riding underage. The police made him stop riding the moped right away. Dirk Van de Sande,a police spokesperson confirmed that they dealt with the teenager according to the law making it clear that his urgent pizza delivery didn’t let him off the hook from facing consequences.

What consequences did drivers face for violating road safety rules?

The cops caught another moped rider who was high on cannabis. They took away his license for 15 days. This guy had been caught last September for the same thing. He called his brother to pick up the moped but when his brother rode off he did it really fast. The cops chased and caught him. The moped was supposed to go 25 km/h but it could actually go nearly 50 km/h so they seized it. Another driver who was told his license would be taken for 15 days got really upset. He felt like they were treating him badly and said he’d seen worse thing happening on the road.

A driver in Borne got stopped for a regular check and was found to have a blood alcohol level of 1.98 grams per mille way higher than what’s allowed for driving. The driver confessed to partying the night before and drinking which caused his high alcohol level. Because the driver had such a high alcohol level his license was taken away for fifteen days. This is to stop him from driving drunk again and to keep everyone safe on the road.

In some recent police actions a few people were caught for not following the rules with their provisional driving licenses. They might not have been doing things right as provisional drivers. The cops stopped a car with three kids in the backseat who weren’t buckled up in proper child seats. Not having the right safety gear for kids is super dangerous if there’s a crash. The authorities gave fines and did other thing to make sure everyone follows the safety rules on the road.
