Brussels (The Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Renew Europe a pro-European political group of the European Parliament stated that Mr Draghi’s report is a wake-up call for Europe.

Renew Europe accommodates the launch of Mr Draghi’s report on European competitiveness, naming it a wake-up for Europe. The group said that they, therefore, welcome that several of Renew Europe’s calls to action are incorporated. To name a few, innovation, speeding up digitalization, decarbonization as the source of growth, bold defense, and reducing barriers for the single market.

What Key Reforms Does Renew Europe Support from Draghi’s Report?

Remarking after the launch of Mr Draghi’s report, President of Renew Europe, MEP Valérie Hayer, stated: “Our businesses are crying out for a more competitive environment, investment in infrastructure, and a more robust focus on strategic autonomy. Our single market ought to be deepened and intensified into a complete capital market. We ought to kick-start European competitiveness and there is no time to lose.”

How Is Political Extremism Threatening Europe’s Economic Future?

At the same time, Renew Europe cautions that the big reforms needed to deliver a more robust economy and more opportunities for citizens will only come if the political extremists who want to thwart European progress are overcome. The required new economic model for Europe can only be provided from the political centre.

How Will Draghi’s Report Influence the Next European Commission?

President of Renew Europe, Valérie Hayer further said that this report is a wake-up call for all of Europe. “Our continent is at a crossroads: further European integration, investment, and simplification to build a new economy, or the risk of stagnation. We expect this report and the report of Mr Letta to shape the incoming European Commission and its priorities.”

Moreover, she added that political polarization and the politics of extremism must not be permitted to put the brakes on the reforms that are required to secure prosperity and opportunity for everyone in Europe. Furthermore, Renew Europe stated that it will be a vigorous, progressive parliamentary partner for an ambitious new European Commission. A new economic standard for Europe can only be delivered from the political centre.
