Putte (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – The old town hall in Putte, dating back to the Middle Ages, needs urgent roof repairs. Mayor Glenn Smets (CD&V) plans a study to find new community uses while preserving its history.

According to the officials, the old town hall in Putte, province of Antwerp, Belgium is a special building. It’s in the centre of town and has a lot of history. Right now, it’s only used for weddings and some after-school care. The city wants to use it for more things. They are going to study how to do that. They want to find new ways to use the building that are interesting and helpful.

The mayor wants people in the town to help decide. They want to make the town hall useful for everyone. They want to keep the building’s history and beauty. The mayor mentioned that they want to make sure the town hall is a place where everyone can go and enjoy themselves.

We currently only use it as a wedding location and for a small part of after-school care,

says Mayor Glenn Smets (CD&V).

How will Putte’s historic town hall be repaired and used?

The town hall also needs some repairs. The roof is damaged and needs to be fixed.  The roof has been leaking for a long time, and it’s getting worse. The mayor says that the roof needs to be fixed before they can do anything else. They want to make sure the building is safe and ready for new uses. They want to make it a place for community events, cultural things, and maybe even some town offices.

The stability itself is still okay, that has been investigated. But the roof is really in urgent need of renovation, we have leaks there,

says Mayor Smets.

According to the officials, the town of Putte needs more space for childcare and a new building for the service centre. The town needs a place for kids to go and a place where people can get help with things they need. But the mayor says that putting those things in the old town hall wouldn’t work. They decided to look at other ways to use the old town hall.

The old town hall has been there since the Middle Ages, and they can’t change it too much. The mayor wants to get money to fix up the town hall and make it useful again. They are still figuring out what to do with the town hall, but they want to have a plan by next year. Then they can start fixing it up and using it for something new. The mayor wants to make sure the old town hall is still there, but also that it’s useful for people in the town.

I want to arrange the concrete matters for use by next year so that we can start in the years after that,

concludes the mayor.
