Utah (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Rapper Playboi Carti, whose legal name is Jordan Terrell Carter, was cited with a misdemeanor assault charge after allegedly attacking his limousine driver and girlfriend during a heated incident on October 2, 2025, in Utah. The altercation occurred while being transported from a Park City hotel to rehearsal, drawing significant media attention and police investigation.

Incident Details and Police Involvement

According to a police report obtained by Curtis Booker of Yahoo News, Wasatch County sheriff’s deputies responded to a fight near River Road and State Route 40 after an initial call reported two men engaged in a physical confrontation near black SUVs. The limousine driver, Carl Reynolds, alleged that Carti assaulted both him and the rapper’s girlfriend during the ride. This transpired as the driver was taking Carti and his entourage from the Waldorf Astoria hotel in Park City to a rehearsal at Utah Valley University.

The limo driver claims that Carti and his girlfriend began arguing intensely, purportedly over a sexual matter, while inside the vehicle. Reynolds intervened to de-escalate but says Carti threatened to assault him and his girlfriend. Subsequently, Carti allegedly punched his girlfriend in the chest, prompting Reynolds to stop the car safely on a highway in Heber City. Carti then struck Reynolds as the girlfriend was exiting the vehicle, causing the driver a swollen jaw and whiplash effect, before Carti’s security chief intervened to break up the disturbance.

The Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office officially charged Playboi Carti on October 9, 2025, with a class B misdemeanor assault. Despite the charge, Carti has reportedly continued his Antagonist 2.0 Tour performances, which are scheduled through December 1 in Atlanta. Police served Carti with a citation and conducted forensic documentation, including photographing injuries, while Carti declined facial photography during the process.

Statements from Parties Involved

Reynolds is preparing to hire legal counsel, stating his motivation is primarily to prevent further harm to others, including Carti’s girlfriend. Attempts to reach Carti’s team for comment have not yielded responses as of this report.

Meanwhile, Carti’s girlfriend Gio, who was present during the incident, reportedly denied allegations of assault, calling such claims “fake news” according to some social media responses. The security guard accompanying Carti also accepted some responsibility, complicating the narrative of the incident.

Public Reactions and Media Coverage

The incident has sparked widespread media coverage and public discourse surrounding artist conduct on tour. Fans and critics alike discuss the implications of the assault charge on Carti’s career and public image, amid a broader conversation about accountability among celebrities.

Context of the Tour

Carti was in Utah as part of his Antagonist 2.0 Tour that supports his latest album. The incident disrupted preparations and raised concerns about artist behaviour under pressure when travelling and performing.

This case highlights the intricate challenges faced by high-profile musicians managing personal disputes while maintaining public commitments. The legal process will determine Carti’s liability regarding the alleged assault. Meanwhile, the incident serves as a reminder of the importance of managing conflicts non-violently and the consequences of aggressive behaviour in professional environments.
