Lommel (Brussels Morning) – Flemish Minister Zuhal Demir granted a permit for Glas Trösch to build a new flat glass factory in Lommel despite concerns from North Brabant province in the Netherlands.
The Flemish Minister for the Environment Zuhal Demir gave the green light for building a new flat glass factory by Glas Trösch in Lommel. Limburg province approved it before but North Brabant province in the Netherlands wasn’t happy due to concerns about nitrogen emissions. However Minister Demir believes that with the new nitrogen rules nitrogen levels will actually go down in Flanders.
Glas Trösch’s New Factory Journey
Glas Trösch is planning to build the new factory where Philips Emgo used to be. They aim to make flat glass for windows and solar panels. The factory could provide jobs for 300 people directly and 1,000 indirectly through suppliers. North Brabant in the Netherlands halted things last year but Minister Demir granted the permit now. Looks like things are moving forward for the factory in Lommel.
Minister Zuhal Demir believes that with the new nitrogen decree in place they can ensure that no extra harm will be done. This decree likely includes regulations and measures to control and reduce nitrogen emissions effectively thus protecting the environment and preventing any further damage. It’s a way for the government to make sure that the factory’s operations won’t negatively impact the nitrogen levels in the area.
