Oud-Turnhout (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Oud-Turnhout’s recycling centre will close Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov 25–26, 2025, due to the national strike. From Jan 1, 2026, IOK Afvalbeheer will manage it; other municipal services remain open.
As GVA News reported, the national strike will affect the recycling centre in Oud-Turnhout, in the province of Antwerp, Belgium, this week. The centre will remain closed on Tuesday, Nov 25, 2025, and Wednesday, Nov 26, 2025. The closure is caused by staff joining the nationwide protest. The municipality has asked residents to plan and avoid visiting the centre until it reopens.
When will Oud-Turnhout’s recycling centre reopen after the strike?
From January 1, 2026, the recycling centre will be managed by IOK Afvalbeheer. This intermunicipal organisation is responsible for waste collection and recycling in the region. Authorities said the strike closure is temporary and will not affect operations after the management transfer.
Other municipal services in Oud-Turnhout will continue as usual. City offices and administrative services will remain open during the strike. Residents can still access official services without interruption.
Recycling centres in Belgium have experienced temporary closures due to strikes in the past. In March 2023, some recycling centres in Antwerp were closed for 1 or 2 days during a national public service strike. In October 2022, waste collection and recycling services in parts of East Flanders suffered a two-day closure after staff protested.
The Oud-Turnhout recycling centre was established in 1995. In 2005 and 2012, the centre began offering separate collection areas for plastics, paper, glass, and garden waste. In 2018, the facility underwent changes to promote safety and ease of use for visitors.
