Ostend (The Brussels morning Newspaper): Nick Mertens and his team are creating a new program to replace the canceled W-festival aiming to maintain its spirit. Due to challenges in venue booking and permits they postponed the event to ensure quality and compliance planning a brunch and DJ performances instead.

Nick Mertens is  an important person in creating a new program and talked about the big goals they had at the start. He said their plans were very ambitious and detailed. They made these plans because they learned that the company in charge of the W-festival had gone bankrupt which meant the festival would not happen this year. When the news came out it caused a lot of worry and sadness among people who usually attend the festival. Mertens got many phone calls from friends and other festival fans who were shocked by the news. A lot of them had already booked hotels in Ostend expecting to enjoy the festival. Just spending the whole weekend on the beach didn’t sound good to them so they started looking for other options.

What is the new plan to replace the canceled W-Festival in Ostend?

Understanding that people wanted to make the most of their weekend plans. Mertens and his team chose to step in and create a new program to replace the canceled W-festival. Their goal was to provide a fun experience for those who had already planned to be in Ostend for the festival. The new program aimed to keep the same spirit as the original event so attendees could still have a great weekend even though the festival was canceled.

After gathering a team to brainstorm potential venues they discovered that securing a suitable location on short notice was more difficult than anticipated. Many venues were either already booked too costly or not appropriate for the event. Compounding the issue the organizers learned that obtaining the necessary permits would take much longer than the two weeks they had available. This posed a serious risk as hosting without the proper permits could lead to legal complications or even cancellation by authorities. In light of these obstacles the team decided to adjust their plans. Recognizing the need for more time to properly organize the event and ensure all details were in order they chose to postpone the event. This decision allows them to find the right venue and complete all necessary preparations without compromising on quality or compliance with regulations. The new plan is to have DJs perform at Café Twilight which W-festival fans already know well. It has been said that  on 24th August at saturday from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM there will be a big brunch at Klein Strand the original festival location. Mertens said the city council suggested this spot and they liked it because it lets them express their disappointment with the other organizers. To keep things free since people have lost money they’re asking everyone to bring their own food, drinks, picnic blankets and garbage bags to help keep the beach clean.
