Ostend (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – A reconstruction of December’s fatal stabbing was organised in Ostend. A 25-year-old man was killed. The suspect, aged 34 years, from Ostend, admitted to the murder but defended himself, claiming that he never planned to murder the murdered person.
A transformation over time was made to the scene of an event that took place near the Kursaal in December, where a young man of 25 years was killed. When questioned by the police, the 34-year-old admitted that the criminal told him that he was not going to murder the victim.
One of the men drew a weapon and fired at the other man, and in the subsequent scuffle, the victim got a stab in his stomach. Security protocols required the one-hour reconstruction to proceed while keeping it completely sealed from public entry and relocating all nonessential personnel.
The construction took place under intensive police oversight while law enforcement watched every location across its boundaries and secured the entire site. All hotel guests inside the closed area received room-to-room assistance while police blocked off access to the entire site.
A nearby night shop served as a location where he collapsed before passing away at the hospital. During the reconstruction, his lawyer, Kris Vincke, said the perpetrator provided complete assistance while repeating that death was not intended. During the reconstruction process, none of the investigators were able to discover additional evidence that would advance the probe.
According to Kris Vincke, the perpetrator’s lawyer, the reconstruction went well.
“My client gave his full cooperation during the reconstruction,”
Says Mr. Vincke.
“He maintains that he did not intend to kill the victim.”
During the reconstruction, no new elements emerged that could have helped the investigation further.
What is the history of the fatal stabbing incident in Ostend?
The Kursaal area is one of the most popular tourist attractions and sites for recreation in Ostend, and it also was the site of a stabbing incident on December 17. A 25-year-old man was on his way from home to a night shop to buy some cigarettes, and by doing this, he collided with a man older than himself, more specifically, a 34-year-old man from Ostend
The two had a heated disagreement, which escalated to the extent that one of them nearly killed the other with a butcher knife by piercing his abdomen.
The victim reached a nearby night shop before collapsing, and he passed away afterwards in the hospital. Based on his confession, the offender states he never aimed to kill the victim. The latest incident reconstruction failed to disclose any fresh evidence that would help the ongoing investigation.
Security measures were strict throughout the reconstruction phase, while police maintained constant vigilance over every section and forced out unidentified persons from the restricted area. The case gained extensive public interest because it involved violent actions alongside undefined motives related to the disagreement.
