What makes the rare orange lobster found at restaurant balena so extraordinary?
The chef at Restaurant Balena in Genk Davide Montagnino had a story to share about finding a surprise during a special lobster menu. Usually he gets about 200 lobsters every week from the Netherland, but this time he got them from Hasselt. In that delivery there was a special orange lobster that they hadn’t noticed at first. He mentioned that this special lobster is rare because it’s bright orange unlike the usual brown lobsters. It’s an albino lobster which only happens about once in every 10 million lobsters. The manager said they’ve seen a blue lobster before but this living orange one is even rarer. The lobster’s vibrant orange color comes from a genetic mutation that affects its pigmentation making it a really unique and extraordinary find.
They said that the lobster might hang out in the tank for a bit but eventually it’s destined for the dinner table. The restaurant plans to do something special with it by maybe raffling it off on Instagram for a customer to enjoy a free meal. The chef mentions that the taste of the orange lobster is just like a regular one. For now you can spot the lobster in the aquarium at the restaurant standing out with its bright color. Many people are likely to notice it and ask if it’s on the menu jokes the chef.
