How Will the Expanded Sports Hall in Sledderlo Bring the Community Together?

The boss Karolien Gielen said they’re making the sports hall even bigger thanks to the city’s help. The hall will have more space and maybe more good stuff now. The city’s support like money or help with planning  made this upgrade possible.

Gielen said it’s important to get everyone in the neighborhood involved in sports. They want to make lots of fun sports stuff for people to do like new programs and events. The bigger sports hall will be like a main place where everyone can be active and healthy. They want to encourage everyone to join in and be active.

Alderman Alessandro Cucchiara said that many people in the city want a place to play sports after work. They really want sports facilities that are open when people finish work. Cucchiara said it wouldn’t make sense for everyone to build their own sports hall. He thinks it’s better for everyone to share a big sports hall. This way lots of people can use it together, hang out and play sports as a community

The primary school in Genk wanted to build a new school with a gym for a while. They got the money they needed including for the gym. Alderman Alessandro Cucchiara said it’s smarter to make the gym bigger instead of each of us building our own. The important thing is that everyone can use it. The new sports hall will be big 20 by 30 meters. They’re planning to have indoor football, basketball, volleyball, dance and martial arts. They’re also setting up a childcare area. The city of Genk is putting in 2.1 million for the gym and they’ll cover the costs for using it after school.
