Wavre (The Brussels Morning Newspaper): A tragic motorcycle accident in Wavre claimed 21-year-old Zoe Lothist’s life. Her mother urges young riders to seek more training for safety. Zoe’s funeral is on August 13.

An accident happened on Friday evening around 8 p.m. on Hoveniersstraat in Waver. A 21-year-old woman who had recently gotten her driver’s license was out riding her new motorcycle to get used to it. She was with a more experienced rider probably there to help her as she was still learning. The motorcycle accident happened for reasons that are still being looked into. Tim Gebels from the Bodukap police zone said they are not sure yet what caused the crash so they are still collecting information to understand what happened.

What caused the fatal motorcycle accident in Wavre?

The woman was riding her motorcycle and accidentally crashed into a truck while turning. Her lack of experience might have caused the accident. Some nearby drivers were the first to see the crash. They described the scene as shocking with the woman needing urgent medical help. Paramedics worked hard to save her but she later passed away which deeply saddened those who tried to help her. Zoe Lothist Cathy Lothist’s daughter was riding her motorbike in the neighborhood. When she neared her grandparents’ house she slowed down to say hello. Despite them living a bit away she waved to them from afar to show her love. Zoe’s gesture of acknowledging her grandparents while passing by shows her care for them even in the midst of her day.

Cathy Lothist from Hoeilaart in Flemish Brabant is heartbroken as she has to bury her daughter Zoe. Zoe had just recently obtained her motorcycle license after years of wanting it. Despite Cathy’s fear of motorcycles Zoe’s passion for riding won and she was excited for her first ride with a friend that Friday. Zoe was full of life always seeking adventure and had plans for her future, including living with her boyfriend and working at Brussels Airlines. Cathy describes Zoe as a vibrant soul whose life was tragically cut short.

The whole family was together with Zoe’s grandparents on Sunday. They think Zoe’s accident happened because she was new to riding. Cathy hopes young riders will consider more training to stay safe. The family is sad but trying to cope. Cathy wants to talk to the people who saw the accident for closure. Zoe’s funeral is on August 13 at 10 am at the Coorevits funeral home in Overijse.
