As HBVL News reported, a 29-year-old man from Mol was badly injured on Friday evening, Aug 29, 2025, in Genk after becoming trapped in the gears of a wind turbine. Doctors said his condition is stable and that he is doing well considering the circumstances. His colleague was not injured.

said Jurgen Ritzen, spokesperson for ZOL, regarding Friday evening’s rescue operation.

What happened to the 29-year-old Mol worker in the Genk wind turbine accident?

The man was transported to the hospital following a traumatic injury to his left hand and arm. He required a late-night surgery after doctors worried he could lose a limb or hand. The medical team was able to confirm the operation was successful, and amputation was avoided. His condition has since improved. He was transferred from intensive care to a regular ward.

The patient acknowledged the emergency services for their quick response and professional assistance. Medical staff emphasise that recovery will take several months and will require extensive therapy.

A 29-year-old Enercom employee from Mol was injured on August 29, 2025, while carrying out maintenance on a wind turbine at the Genk-Zuid industrial estate. The incident happened around 3:30 p.m. on Henry Fordlaan when the worker’s arm became trapped in the turbine’s moving gears about 100 meters high.

His colleague raised the alarm, after which the East Limburg fire service deployed 4 specialised vehicles to assist in the rescue. Police zone Carma secured the area, and the man was stabilised before being flown by helicopter to the hospital. The labour inspectorate has started an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
