MEPs visit The Hague to discuss ICC and ICJ challenges

Huage (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – MEPs visit the Hague to discuss the ICC and ICJ’s challenges amid armed conflicts, focusing on impunity and resource needs.

A delegation of MEPs from the Subcommittee for Human Rights will travel to The Hague on 29 -30 October to hold meetings with top International Criminal Court (ICC) and Eurojust officials, International Court of Justice (ICJ) judges, representatives of the civil society and diplomats.

How will MEPs address critical issues?

The delegation will discuss the international legal order, the growing workload and resource requirements in the fight against impunity, and the momentous challenges awaiting the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the International Court of Justice (ICJ). 

Against the background of multiple armed disputes and violations of international human rights law, they will examine the international justice architecture, the challenges, growing workload and resource requirements in the fight against impunity worldwide and how to deliver support and redress to victims. They will have meetings with top International Criminal Court (ICC) and Eurojust officials, International Court of Justice (ICJ) judges, representatives of civil society and diplomats to concern the fight against impunity worldwide.

Moreover, MEPs will also look into the International Centre for the Prosecution of the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine (ICPA), a judicial hub ingrained in Eurojust to support investigations into the crime of aggression linked to the war in Ukraine, and the Genocide Network, enabling collaboration between the national authorities when investigating and indicting international crimes (genocide, offences against humanity and war crimes).
